Last week, I was in a meeting with one of my clients. He asked me is it necessary to be on WordPress? I told him no, its definitely not necessary. He thanked me so much like I just did a huge favor to him by saying no. I knew immediately he genuinely hated WordPress due to past failed experiences.

I told him, If the message your conveying to the world is clear that is the most important part instead what you used to build it with. Since that is what will get them customers.

Customer or people using the site just don't care about the platform and neither should you. Future updates to the website should be easy as writing an email or even more easier. This is based on direct feedback from a real client of mine.

Customers Don't Like WordPress Anymore

Most customers hate the WordPress dashboard it has left a bad taste with them and many of the customers just don't like the CMS because of its learning curve. Wordpress was originally developed to make blogs, not to be used like a CMS. But due to big sites wanting to have CMS in it, WordPress progressed to be like it. At the end of day, the main person or small business who employs a assistant or office person (the real person who will do the updates) they just don't like it.

Agencies Like Wordpress

Most web design agencies like Wordpress because they can slap a template to your project and be done with it. Lower input and its a money maker for them. Now there is nothing wrong in doing that, except your paying them way too much to slap templates, if the work they are doing isn't unique then just stop. They might have a developer on hand, but I'm pretty sure they are there for prime custom projects, now I'm not sure if your project would be prime to them. Just be aware of that.

What I Tell My Customers

The platform in which your site sits is really based on your liking. I study my clients input during the 1st initial meeting and I make sure the person who will make future edits to the website is well aware of the platform being implemented and its super easy for them. I want to make sure they are able to do updates to the website in minutes. I do provide free training after site launch. Website updating should not be a chore for anybody, it should be a cool thing to do.
